What I thought was set to be a climactic moment after a beautiful set-piece ended up being only the end of the game's first act. In an attempt to match the scope of its story to the size of its world, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor stumbles. ![]() Through the first act in particular, there were times where I was desperately searching for a place to stop, more so that I could take a break than so Cal could replenish his health. Sometimes, these are elaborate jumping puzzles, other times arenas full to bursting with enemies. There are times when, in an attempt to fill this vast space, Respawn isn't sure what to do beyond throwing challenges at you. Fast-travel ensures that Koboh's biggest expanses aren't too disruptive, but it's clear that Survivor's maps haven't been deliberately built to take advantage of the system.Īll that size, however, remains the foundation of Jedi: Survivor's keenest weakness. Side-content, optional bosses, and puzzles fill every nook and cranny, and patrolling troopers ensure you're not just battling random fauna as you explore. Koboh is huge, a space that feels as though it dwarfs all of Jedi: Fallen Order combined and has the density to match its square footage Jedi: Survivor's Metroidvania-style traversal is at its most varied in the towering mesas and weaving canyons that spin off from the main hub area. Styled after the American Old West, it's a classic frontier town prospectors on every corner, a ranch owned by a woman literally called Mosey, an old-timey bartender droid in the saloon, and a bounty hunter-hunter obscured beneath the brim of a stetson. ![]() Much of that work is attached to Koboh, a planet that functions as a hub world for Cal to explore, as well as the location for a significant portion of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor's story. There's humor and heart far beyond what I was expecting, and it's only given the space to come to the surface because of the work that's gone into making the galaxy feel like a living, breathing entity. Jedi: Survivor injects a huge amount of life into the Star Wars universe, and in doing so gives Respawn room to play. There are living worlds to explore, not just arenas of carefully-placed stormtroopers. Planets feel like planets, rather than tiny regions. Set-pieces offer incredible vistas and heart-in-mouth action scenes. An early scene feels like a shot directly out of the original trilogy. The galaxy itself has been brought to life in a way more in line with the best Star Wars movies than anything Jedi: Fallen Order offers. Combine that with a fighting style which flows between strikes more smoothly, and a camera that closes ever-so-slightly closer in on the action, and Cal feels like the hero of his story from its opening moments.īut it's not just Cal that feels better from the start. The Force Powers that Cal spent Jedi: Fallen Order recovering – double-jumps, wall-running, push and pull – are all there, ensuring versatility in combat from the outset. ![]() The result is a Jedi more confident and agile than before, a fighter who feels like he's reveling in his abilities from the very beginning. ![]() While most sequels offer something of a character reset, the story of Fallen Order makes that impossible for Cal – his growth through that game a crucial part of what his character has become in this one. Picking up five years after the events of Jedi: Fallen Order, Cal Kestis is himself key to Star Wars Jedi: Survivor's expansion.

Even though she was 10 years older than him, they would remain together until her death in 1982. But it wasn’t a big problem for Dalí and, in the end, Gala married Dalí in 1934. ![]() Unfortunately, Gala was already married to the French Surrealist poet Paul Eluard (and also involved in a romance with Max Ernst). In August 1929, Dalí met the love of his life: Elena Ivanovna Diakonova, better known as Gala. This had a huge psychological effect on the boy. When Dalí was five, his parents took him to first Salvador’s grave and informed him of their belief that he was the reincarnation of his own dead brother. Nine months after the child’s death, the second Salvador was born and named after his late brother. That’s the message I’m hoping to convey with Rock This Town - that music is a key part of a cultural ecosystem in any community and that it was possible to have that in Waterloo Region.HBO Documentary Films has acquired the rights to airing the feature-length documentary The Bee Gees: How Can You Mend A Broken Heart, spanning the decades-long career of one of the most successful bands in history. It required a certain level of entrepreneurship to make the music happen here. Kitchener-Waterloo is not Toronto, Vancouver or Montreal. “Music drove the culture, and we were part of the music scene. All these people gave their perspective on the business side of the music, but the juicy bits in the film are the stories people tell of their experiences in a particular time period from ’65 to ’75. “I set out to interview the people I knew had done that kind of work in the community. “My purpose in producing the film was to make the case that for a music scene to happen, one of the key factors is the entrepreneurs who are willing to take the risk to make stuff happen. ![]() I have a memory of these tremendous concerts where everybody just sat on the floor of the PAC. “A student activity fee was being collected and Joe was given a mandate to spend the money on entertainment, so he set out to buy talent for rock ’n roll concerts for ridiculously low prices (as low as two dollars). “In those days, student politics were pretty left of centre,” said Rock This Town producer Keller, who was dating Recchia at the time and was active behind the scenes. Given that the University of Waterloo was founded on a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship, it’s not all that surprising that Recchia and his engineering peers, who knew so little about the music business when they started, got the support they needed to make a go of it. It was a band at their peak, and they lived up to it. We paid them the most money we paid anybody. “It was a time in their career where they were very hot. The more acts I booked, the closer I got to these people.”Īlthough hard-pressed to pick a favourite act, Recchia said the Bee Gees, who played on campus in 1975, were particularly awesome. That’s when the American colleges started to pay attention. “Their agent sent the act up to be showcased and they got 30 dates in Canada. One pro tip: Look for a non-slip handle regardless of which model or brand you choose. Peeling is an inherently repetitive motion, so you want a tool that won’t cause fatigue or pain. Handle: The best advice is to find a peeler that’s comfortable for you.Electric models hold the fruit or vegetable in place while rotating against a blade for quick, continuous peeling. Whether it includes its own motor or relies on the motor of an appliance like a stand mixer, it's a great choice for tackling a large amount of produce or if manual peelers aren't right for you. If possible, test one of each kind to decide which is more comfortable. They’re both effective means of peeling, but some experts find that straight peelers are suited to everyday peeling, like carrots, and Y-peelers provide more control and leverage with larger items, like squash. Style: Manual vegetable peelers generally come in one of two styles: A straight peeler, which features a blade that’s in line with the handle, or a Y-peeler, which is shaped like a Y with the blade across the top. ![]() Most Versatile Vegetable Peeler: Tovolo Magnetic Tri-Peeler Set.Best Vegetable Peeler for Arthritis: Chef’n Palm Peeler.Best Corn Peeler: OXO Good Grips Corn Prep Peeler.Best Electric Vegetable Peeler: KitchenAid Spiralizer Plus Attachment.Best Value Vegetable Peeler: Kuhn Rikon Piranha Y-Peeler.Best Overall Vegetable Peeler: Swissmar Scalpel Blade Peeler. The peelers that were top scorers against our 8 data points of analysis made our list of the best vegetable peelers: Then we tested the specialized peelers (like corn peelers and eggplant peelers) on the vegetables they were suited for and compared results. We peeled more than 20 pounds of produce - butternut squash, potatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots, and apples - on the universal peelers to determine the comfort and ease of use, the ability to navigate irregularly shaped produce, and the thinness of the peeled skins. We lined up more than a dozen vegetable peelers for testing by the Good Housekeeping Institute’s Kitchen Appliances and Technology Lab. Once you have an effective tool on hand, you can find all kinds of genius new uses for your peeler. ![]() Asparagus, on the other hand, is more efficiently peeled with a smaller, more curved blade. Large vegetables with tougher skins - like that butternut squash, as well as eggplant - benefit from a wider blade. For example, tomatoes, with their thin skin and tender flesh, are much easier to peel with a serrated blade. Almost any potato peeler can handle a single carrot for a salad, but when you need to tackle a bushel of tomatoes for homemade tomato sauce or a big ol’ butternut squash, a specialized vegetable peeler helps.Ī vegetable peeler is very similar to a potato peeler, but can vary in size and blade style to make it more suitable to specific foods. It's really good for when medieval dragons face off against space aliens. I agree with anyone who says this is nice and beautiful. Seriously, it's that awesome!! You can't miss this! It fits well not just for Skyrim or Final Fantasy but also for any MMORPG that has ever existed. This would fit well for when Thor has his own army to lead him into war and fight. Its mid-tempo pace (unlike their usual faster songs) reminds me of Irish folk and especially the Skyrim theme. The slower but still epic "Cry Thunder" is another one of my favorite DragonForce songs, and my favorite with their new vocalist Marc Hudson! An amazing song worth playing air-guitar until your fingers break and headbanging until you sprain your neck. ![]() Brilliant! As the heroes fight the enemies, the generals duel each other. The single "Heroes of Our Time" keeps up the verse-chorus structure I find boring in most other bands, but for soloing, there are so many random changes that you can't tell what's next. For that scene idea, the intro would be the march into battle, then the battle begins throughout the rest of the song. Then the usual power metal comes on with Hudson's vocals. The second track "Holding On" is the opener of the band's first album with their new young lead singer Marc Hudson, already heard from the intro with an immense power metal scream that might remind some of Michael Kiske in Helloween's Keeper of the Seven Keys albums. So thank you DragonForce, along with my dad and brother! For that song's scene idea, it would be the main title and opening credits. And I can't believe it was just 8 years ago when it all started. From the intricate guitar lines and solo plus strange Pac-Man noises to the amazing vocals and fantasy lyrics, this song burned away my horrid radio-pop future and replaced it with a glorious metal one. ![]() Yes, this is indeed my own metal "big bang" (NOT the K-pop boy band, the universal beginning I mean). "Through the Fire and Flames"!! If it wasn't for this song, or for my dad and brother both finding it, I wouldn't have been interested in metal, or maybe I would via a different song. The album kicks off with their most popular song, and the complete start of my entire metal interest. A world of dragons and guitar solos await! I can even write some scene ideas for each song. There's also a bonus disc called The Vids with every DragonForce music video up to the compilation's release. Welcome back to my small series of power metal band compilations from my earlier epic metal taste with new scenarios to fit with the songs, this time it's a compilation from the one band that started my entire metal interest, DragonForce! Their compilation Killer Elite is just like what the subtitle says, "The Hits and the Highs", with the first disc containing successful singles and well-known hits, and the second disc containing songs that are higher level of epic and extreme. It’s a classically conventional layout, too, with no strange idiosyncrasies to trip you up along the way.Īt 150 x 90mm, the trackpad is also one of the biggest you’ll find on a Windows laptop and works all the better for it. The XPS 15’s keyboard isn’t the best we’ve ever used - the Lenovo ThinkPad range remains the gold standard for this - but Dell’s effort certainly isn’t bad, with solid and precise action and nicely judged key travel. Dell XPS 15 review: Keyboard and trackpad Incidentally, both the OLED and 4K IPS panels have Gorilla Glass 6 screens and support touch, although the more budget-friendly 1080p model does not. For this sort of money, a 90Hz panel would have been a compelling addition Huawei has given its new MateBook 14s just such a display, and that laptop is considerably cheaper. Our only other slight gripe is the maximum 60Hz refresh rate. Recalibrating the panel using Dell’s pre-loaded PremierColor software should be easy enough if you have a colourimeter to hand, but beware it only supports the Portrait Displays C6 and X-Rite iDisplay Pro models. We measured a Delta E rating of 5.5, which is rather poor, and too far off the mark for professional work. ![]() The only real issue is the colour accuracy. The slightly soft-touch carbon fibre keyboard deck is an unusual but great piece of design that feels as good as it looks. At 2kg it’s considerably heavier than the incredibly light (but admittedly rather flimsy) Samsung Galaxy Book Pro, which is a consideration if you plan on carrying your laptop around for extended periods. The XPS 15 is still class-leadingly sleek with very narrow screen bezels and a tidy array of ports and cooling vents. Dell XPS 15 review: Designĭell has resisted the urge to mess with the excellent design that has graced the XPS range for more than half a decade. The unit that features in this review came with a mid-range specification - Core i7 processor, 32GB RAM and the RTX 350Ti GPU - which will cost just over £2,000, before tax. Not to mention an Nvidia GeForce RTX graphics card. The latest refresh of Dell's hardware has brought more quality to the table, with an option OLED display and a range of 11th-gen Intel Core processors. But the XPS 15 as a whole is a superior machine that's tough to beat. There may be Lenovo devices with slightly better keyboards, or a Samsung notebook with a more glorious display, such as the Galaxy Book Pro. ![]() There are very few laptops that can boost the critical acclaim of the Dell XPS 15, which is loved by both technology journalists and consumers alike. |
